How PRP Therapy Helped One Client ‘Feel Great Inside and Out’

“Dr. B. has helped me feel great inside and out. This may be the best I have ever felt. Everything she recommends is grounded in science, which I really like.” —Holly Shoumake

You could say that Holly Shoumake is the “face” of Halo Medicine as she works at Halo’s front desk, but she also has had a PRP face lift with beautiful results. Holly wants to share her experience, because she is so happy with the benefits of PRP therapy.

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma and is a part of a category of medicine called Regenerative Medicine. In simple terms, the process involves taking a small amount of your blood, concentrating your blood’s platelets, and then injecting the resulting platelet-rich plasma into an area of your body in need of regeneration.

Why Holly Chose PRP Therapy for Herself

Holly first became intrigued with PRP by witnessing the results in Dr. Banerjee’s clients. “I talked with happy clients daily who showed me before and after pictures with noticeably younger looking faces or thicker hair,” she says. “They looked fantastic. I got interested in the procedure and asked Dr. Banerjee about it.”

Dr. Banerjee explained to Holly that she uses PRP therapy to perform non-invasive face lifts, breast lifts, hair regrowth or to improve incontinence and sexual function. After careful evaluation, Holly decided to proceed with several areas of PRP therapy, including PRP for face lift and hair regrowth.

How PRP Therapy Works

PRP Therapy begins with a simple blood draw that takes under five minutes. After the platelet-rich plasma is prepared, Dr. Banerjee injects it through a micro-needle into multiple places at the site of treatment. Holly said the procedure was not painful at all, because the areas were numbed.

After treatment, it takes 4-6 weeks to start to see the results for the PRP face lift and 6-8 months to see the full impact of the PRP hair regrowth. The results last for up to 18 months. It has been several months since Holly’s therapy, and she feels she is seeing an excellent response.

Holly Sees and Feels Results

It took about a month for Holly to see the results on her face. People she knows started to comment that she looked younger and really refreshed—rejuvenated. She had not told many people about the procedure, which made it all the more validating that friends were noticing. Holly noted, “At about the 6 month mark, my husband looked at me one morning and asked if I had another procedure done. He was really seeing a difference! PRP therapy results get better and better over those first 6 months.”

PRP stimulates the body’s natural collagen production, which is the “scaffolding” for skin. The additional, stronger scaffolding helps to reduce the skin’s laxity and reverse damage that contributes to wrinkles. Holly’s face looks smoother and tighter, while appearing very natural. Dr. Banerjee’s philosophy is to help her clients look their best, and she carefully counsels them on expected outcomes of treatment options. Holly has also started to see new hair growth and is excited about achieving the full results in the future.

During her career, Holly has worked closely with other physicians in medical practices, but none have impacted her life like Dr. Banerjee. As a double board-certified MD, Dr. Banerjee truly understands the human body and her client’s needs. “Dr. B. has helped me feel great inside and out. This may be the best I have ever felt. Everything she recommends is grounded in science, which I really like,” explains Holly. “I am really happy I did PRP therapy and feel lucky to work with Dr. Banerjee every day.”

Laser hair removal | Halo Medicine Glenview Northfield IL

How Laser Hair Removal Is Helping One Client Save Time Every Day

“I used to have to pluck almost daily, and now I don’t. It streamlines my beauty regime.” —Betsy B., Evanston

Betsy came to Halo over the summer for laser hair removal on her chin. After multiple treatments, she says the hair was almost completely removed. “And the hair that still shows up is very fine and very slow-growing. It was a dramatic change.”

Although Betsy had always wanted to do laser hair removal, she was afraid of the laser treatment. She was not sure what kind of damage it could do and didn’t know how effective it would be.

“But Stan and the people at Halo made me feel comfortable in finally taking that step,” Betsy says. “I trusted the people at Halo. I was able to take the time to talk to their experts. They explained the process and how it kills the root of the hair. They also laid out why it works and what it works on.”

The difference was dramatic. “It made the hair go away. Really,” Betsy says. “It kills the root so the hair doesn’t come back. I used to have to pluck almost daily and now I don’t. It streamlines my beauty regime.”

What advice would Betsy give others considering laser hair treatment? “One of my girlfriends is constantly plucking hair. I said to her, ‘You’ve got to go get this done. Just make it easier on yourself!'”

Age gracefully by taking care of yourself | Halo Med Spa Northfield IL

Take time to show yourself gratitude this holiday season

People who are grateful and have a positive attitude experience a different aging journey than those who don’t. Which journey are you on?

When you’re healthy on the inside, you’ll be healthier on the outside.

You’ve probably heard this before. But it’s so easy for us to get caught up in the day-to-day hectic pace of our lives, that we forget, or neglect, to take care of ourselves—especially this time of year.

So I ask you to do yourself a favor as we head into the holiday season…

Take 5 minutes for yourself every morning. Spend the time however you want—meditating, practicing deep breathing or reciting positive affirmations. Take time to express gratitude for all that you have, instead of focusing on what you don’t have. Say to yourself, “I am grateful for ….” and “I am beautiful.”

In just 5 minutes, you’ll increase your positive hormones and natural endorphines. You’ll feel more centered and grounded as you start your day. And this will have a ripple effect on your entire body. You’ll start to feel better on the inside, and you’ll look even better and healthier on the outside.

All of this dovetails with the journey you’re taking with us, and we’re so honored and grateful to be a part of it. My mission is to inspire you to be a healthier, more beautiful, more self-loving individual.

Why? Because people who are grateful and have a positive attitude age very differently than those who don’t. Their health profile is different. Their risk for disease is lower. They age more gracefully. It’s an entirely different journey.

What type of journey do you want to take?

Happy Holidays!
Dr. B and Team Halo

How is Sculptra different than Juvederm?

Today’s facial fillers offer an effective alternative for men and women who want to reduce or erase some of the signs of aging, including wrinkles and lost volume. With the right treatment regimen and a skilled injector, patients can enjoy many of the same benefits of a traditional facelift – but without the cost, incisions or downtime that go hand-in-hand with surgical procedures. Still, not every filler is created equal, and it’s important for patients to understand the differences between products so they can learn why one treatment may be a better option than another for their needs.

Sculptra® vs. Juvederm®

Today, Sculptra® and Juvederm® are two of the most popular facial fillers, and while they can both produce great results, there are some important differences between them:

  • The first and most critical difference is what they’re made of. Juvederm® is composed of hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring substance that helps skin retain moisture so it looks and feels plumper. Sculptra® uses poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a gel derived from natural products that works to promote the development of collagen, one of the most important building blocks of skin. Collagen forms a supportive scaffolding for skin that helps it maintain resiliency and firmness.
  • The next difference is how they’re used. While both products can be used to treat different areas of the face, Juvederm® is primarily used to fill in wrinkles and “plump up” lips that appear too thin. Sculptra® can also be used to address wrinkles, but it’s often used to restore volume in the cheek area, creating a more youthful profile while gently lifting sagging tissues of the lower face.
  • Finally, while Juvederm® results are immediately apparent, they last anywhere from six to nine months before a re-treatment is necessary. The effects of Sculptra® can take longer to appear as collagen is rebuilt, but the final results can last two years or even longer.

What does laser resurfacing cost?

Laser skin resurfacing uses state-of-the-art technology to help patients address multiple issues, including scarring, wrinkles, creases and skin laxity so facial skin looks smoother, clearer and more youthful. Thanks to the range of laser types and treatment approaches available, including CO2 laser resurfacing and fractional laser treatments, laser resurfacing can be an ideal option for both men and women who want to turn back the clock on their skin and their appearance.

Laser Resurfacing Cost Factors

If you’re considering laser resurfacing, there are lots of factors to consider, and for most patients, one of the first questions they ask is, “How much will laser resurfacing cost?” The fact is, laser resurfacing costs can vary significantly from patient to patient depending on the type of treatment, the extent of the treatment and other factors. For instance, ablative resurfacing – procedures that remove the uppermost layers of skin to reveal “new” skin underneath – can be much more expensive than non-ablative procedures that deliver the laser energy through the skin to reach the deeper layers without removing skin.

Non-ablative treatments can be a great solution for reducing wrinkles and tightening skin, but they may not be the ideal choice for patients with more substantial damage. In that case, while the lower cost of a non-ablative procedure may seem tempting, chances are it’s not going to provide the best results.

Making Treatment Affordable

According to the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the cost of laser wrinkle reduction treatments range from about $1,100 to around $3,000, depending on the type of procedure being performed and the extent of the treatment itself.

PRP Injections for wrinkles?

Dermal fillers and injectables like BOTOX and Dysport can do wonders to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, but what if you want something to treat other signs of aging, like changes in skin tone and texture that can leave your face looking worn and tired? If that sounds appealing to you, PRP injection could be a good solution.

What is PRP?

Blood is composed of many elements, including red and white blood cells, plasma (the liquid portion of blood) and platelets. Platelets in turn contain important growth factors that help skin heal after being damaged. PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma, an enriched blood product that’s made from your own blood and contains five times – or more – the normal number of platelets.

In PRP injections, a sample of your own blood is processed to concentrate the number of platelets. Then this concentrated product is reinjected throughout the face to promote a natural healing response that helps reduce the damage caused by aging, restructuring skin so it looks and feels more resilient. If that treatment sounds familiar, you might know it by its “other” name – the vampire facial – made popular after celebrity Kim Kardashian went public with her own treatments a few years ago.

Once PRP is injected into your skin, it stimulates the production of collagen to form a stronger scaffolding for skin to reverse damage and reduce laxity that contributes to wrinkles and changes in texture. One of the main advantages of PRP injection is that because it uses your own blood, there’s no risk of allergic reactions that can occur with other types of injectables.

PRP injections use very thin needles so discomfort is minimized, and treatments take under a half hour to complete. Afterwards, your skin may appear pinkish or sunburned for two or three days. You should begin to see initial results in about a month as new collagen forms.
