How One Client Finds Relief from Sun Damage

A Fair Complexion Can Feel Unfair Under the Sun

Mary from Northbrook comes from a family that has a fair Irish complexion on both sides. That, of course, makes being in the sun tricky.

Both her parents have had skin cancer, and the kids have had to go on the defensive. “I’m the oldest of four kids,” Mary says. “All of us have fair coloring. We’ve all had stuff removed.”

Mary started with seeing a dermatologist, and then won a raffle through Halo. During her initial meeting with us, we noticed that she had a lot of skin damage from being a lifeguard as a teen and from being outside a lot. Even though she had worn sunscreen, it wasn’t enough to prevent sun damage.

The Science Behind the Treatment for Sun Damage

She liked our explanations about her skin issues and treatment options. She eventually went with our Halo Laser treatment and broadband light (BBL) treatments.

“I like the science behind Halo and their different treatments,” Mary says. “They were able to answer all my questions. It’s not some fly-by-night thing. It’s all grounded in solid science.”

Since beginning her treatments with us, Mary has seen solid improvements. Last year, her daughter got married and the family sent a Christmas card with the wedding pictures. A lot of people hadn’t seen her in a while, and Mary says they were amazed at how great she looked.

Preventive and Aesthetic

With Halo, Mary has seen “such dramatic improvements,” she says. “In fact, my dermatologist said the treatments will actually prevent some of the skin cancer down the road—stuff that you can’t even see that’s underneath the skin.”

Because of the history of skin cancer in her family, this news came as a huge relief for Mary. She’s glad she’s doing something proactively to help avoid some of the issues her parents had with their skin.

“In the old days, you were waiting to go see a dermatologist when you saw a problem,” Mary says. “But this is catching and eradicating the problems before they get worse.”

For concrete changes, Mary now sees fewer wrinkles and less redness from Rosacea. She also says her age spots have diminished.

Timewise, her Halo Laser and BBL treatments have fit right into her busy life of raising a family and work. She says there was very little downtime.

“It doesn’t take that long to do some preventive stuff,” she says. “And it’s been really, really positive. If you do this stuff now, you shouldn’t have as many issues later.”

Bye, Bye Brown Spots! One Client’s Experience with BBL, Halo Laser Treatment

“If you’re concerned about brown spots, aging spots, they do a great job with the BBL treatment to get rid of them. They’re either diminished or completely gone. In my case, they were completely gone.”—Herb Levin

A Walking Billboard for Laser Treatment

Herb Levin of Deerfield found out about Halo Laser & Aesthetic Medicine by seeing our work out on the street. He saw a man whose face looked great. Herb says the man had a good skin tone and very few wrinkles for his age. Herb asked the man where he went, and the answer was, “Halo Medicine.”

Initially, Herb came to Halo for broadband light (BBL) laser treatment, which he says, “worked out great.” After that, he came in for BBL and Halo Laser at the same time.

“The results were excellent,” he says. “It really took away some wrinkles, popped up my skin the way it should have and eliminated brown spots. I’m very happy with the results.”

Laser Treatment Eliminates Herb’s Brown Spots

One common question about laser treatments is: Will it hurt?  Herb says he experienced no pain with BBL and very little with the Halo Laser treatment. For the Halo treatment, we apply a cream to the skin, which Herb describes as “feeling hot,” the sensation of which can last for about a day. But he assures people that, “Yes, it’s worth it.”

When he tells people about Halo, Herb explains what they did and then says, “If you’re concerned about brown spots, aging spots, they do a great job with the BBL treatment to get rid of them. They’re either diminished or completely gone. In my case, they were completely gone.

“The results were exactly what they told me they would be. All in all, a very positive experience. I’ve been telling as many people as I can. I referred both my sisters, and friends have gone there on my recommendation.”

How Halo Helped One Client Look and Feel Less Tired

“I was tired of looking so tired.”—Michele M., Glenview

When Michele Messenger of Glenview first came to Halo, she had some concerns. She was worried the treatments would hurt badly and that they’d be expensive. Or worse, she’d end up looking fake after all was said and done.

Fortunately, Michele’s experience was nothing of the sort. She had three Halo laser treatments, as well as PRP to the face and neck, and she says the treatments helped her look and feel better.

“Even after the first [treatment], I just felt like I wasn’t as tired,” she says. “And it felt like the right thing for me. I didn’t want anything that was too invasive. I didn’t want anything that was going to take a lot of time. I don’t wear a lot of makeup. I’m almost a no-maintenance kind of a person. So it just felt like the right thing for me. ”

Initially, Michele opted for some injections, but then realized she was worried about the pain. The last thing we want is for our clients to do something they are uncomfortable with, so we recommended PRP instead. Michele says she likes that we understood that and didn’t try to push her into anything she wasn’t comfortable with.

Thrilled with the Results

Michele couldn’t be happier with how the treatments turned out. “I really feel I got the results I was looking for. I think I look more refreshed,” she says. “I feel so much better. I look in the mirror, and I’m so happy.”

More specifically, Michele is incredibly happy with how her neck area turned out. “I cannot believe the difference in my neck,” she says. “[The improvement to] my neck and jowls has been huge. It’s smoother – the wrinkles have disappeared. It’s tighter. My neck is much, much tighter.”

Michele says that the people around her noticed the positive changes, too. After three laser sessions and one PRP treatment, “people were like, ‘What happened? You look so rested. You look great. What are you doing?'”

“This is just what I was looking for,” Michele says. “I feel like it was just natural…I’m just not so tired looking.”

Great Care Throughout the Treatments

In addition to the great results, Michele likes how Halo showed that we care. She felt we took the time to explain the treatments, which helped her understand what was happening along the way. And while there was downtime after her treatments, she knew what to expect from that as well.

“I was really impressed with the care,” she says. “I really do feel like they care and that it was important to them that I be happy with my results.”

Going forward, she’s planning to consult with Dr. B again to see what she suggests for maintenance and follow-up treatments.  “It’s not a one and done,” says Michele. “You do need to keep it up. I felt like they were honest with that. If you get a few, you get better results. It wasn’t like you need six. I got three.”

She has recommended others to Halo, but has noticed that some individuals are concerned about the pain—just like she was at the beginning.

She addresses their fear with a positive, “Go! Just try it!”

What does laser resurfacing cost?

Laser skin resurfacing uses state-of-the-art technology to help patients address multiple issues, including scarring, wrinkles, creases and skin laxity so facial skin looks smoother, clearer and more youthful. Thanks to the range of laser types and treatment approaches available, including CO2 laser resurfacing and fractional laser treatments, laser resurfacing can be an ideal option for both men and women who want to turn back the clock on their skin and their appearance.

Laser Resurfacing Cost Factors

If you’re considering laser resurfacing, there are lots of factors to consider, and for most patients, one of the first questions they ask is, “How much will laser resurfacing cost?” The fact is, laser resurfacing costs can vary significantly from patient to patient depending on the type of treatment, the extent of the treatment and other factors. For instance, ablative resurfacing – procedures that remove the uppermost layers of skin to reveal “new” skin underneath – can be much more expensive than non-ablative procedures that deliver the laser energy through the skin to reach the deeper layers without removing skin.

Non-ablative treatments can be a great solution for reducing wrinkles and tightening skin, but they may not be the ideal choice for patients with more substantial damage. In that case, while the lower cost of a non-ablative procedure may seem tempting, chances are it’s not going to provide the best results.

Making Treatment Affordable

According to the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the cost of laser wrinkle reduction treatments range from about $1,100 to around $3,000, depending on the type of procedure being performed and the extent of the treatment itself.
