5 Ways to Look Radiant for the Holidays | Halo Med Spa Northfield, Northbrook, Glenview IL

5 Ways to Look Beautiful, Younger and Healthier in Time for the Holidays

With the holidays approaching, your in box will soon start to fill up with invitations to family parties, galas and open house gatherings. For some people, it is an anxious time of year, visiting with people you haven’t seen since the last get together. You want to enter a room feeling beautiful and confident, but the pre-winter blahs may be making you feel anything but. Don’t worry. We are here to help! Consider these 5 med spa treatments that will help you look great and boost your confidence this holiday season…

1) The Fire and Ice Facial

This 20-minute medical facial from Halo med spa is a fantastic way to get your face absolutely glowing. In LA, it’s called the Hollywood Red Carpet treatment because celebrities have these done before any big event. It’s a hybrid treatment that combines a facial and a medical peel. The last step of the facial is a regenerating mask that nourishes your skin and protects you against environmental damage. It also prepares your skin for any further treatments you may be doing, such as laser treatments, microneedling and other deeper procedures, which require skin and pores to be clean. There’s no downtime, and the treatment safely resurfaces and smooths your skin while reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

2) Botox

A simple Botox treatment can get rid of wrinkles, frown lines and crow’s feet. It typically takes about a week for the treatment to take effect, and then you should be all set for for 3-4 months.

3) Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are used to soften facial wrinkles, plump thin lips and enhance other areas that shows signs of early aging. Most dermal fillers work to show immediate results. For our clients who are over age 50, we often recommend Sculptra. It stimulates your body’s collagen production, so the results appear gradually. It usually requires three sessions over a few months to achieve the desired results. If you’d like to consider Sculptra, we recommend scheduling a consultation ASAP so we can have you ready in time for the holidays.

4) PRP Liquid Facelift

For many of our clients who are younger than 50, we recommend the PRP Liquid Facelift instead of dermal fillers. A Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Liquid Facelift is a relatively simple, reliable, and quick facial rejuvenating and skin-tightening procedure. Many people prefer a PRP Liquid Facelift to a regular facelift because you get fabulous results with no surgery or general anesthesia. The procedure comes with no downtime and has been dubbed a “lunchtime lift” because recovery is typically minimal.

5) Laser Treatments

BroadBand Light (BBL) therapy, also known as Intense Pulsed Light therapy or the photo facial, uses cutting-edge technology to produce younger looking skin that’s firmer, and more even in tone and texture. With little recovery time and no surgery, BBL offers a safe, FDA-approved option for sun damage, anti-aging, and skin rejuvenation.

PRP, Dermal Fillers Help Client Look 10 Years Younger

“Dr. B—I want to express my deep gratitude for the services which you have provided me with over the past several months. You have accentuated my natural features, rather than adding something to my face that wasn’t there to begin with. When I look in the mirror in the morning, I feel like the best version of myself. The outside now matches how I feel on the inside— energized and eager to take on life’s challenges with confidence.” — Email from Sarah* to Dr. Banerjee

Sarah, who is in her mid 30s, first came to Halo when she was looking into lip augmentation. She wanted a natural way to add volume to her lips. “I had no intention of doing anything beyond that,” she says. “Even that was a stretch for me.”

But after her initial consultation with Dr. Banerjee, Sarah did some additional research about dermal fillers and PRP and saw the appeal. Since her first visit, she’s returned to Halo for a PRP facelift in combination with dermal fillers, PRP breast rejuvenation, PRP hair regrowth and laser skin resurfacing.

“I always believed that beauty comes from the inside out, and now I believe my outside sparkles a lot more—just like the inside,” Sarah says. “I felt every time I went, I was looking younger and feeling better about myself.”

Looking Younger, Feeling Better

Sarah is thrilled with how much younger she looks. She says the combo treatments she received made her skin plumper and more youthful-looking right on the same day.

After looking at old pictures during her recent move, she could clearly see the difference in herself. She firmly believes she looks 10 years younger. “When I look in the mirror in the morning, I feel like the best version of myself,” she says. “The outside now matches how I feel on the inside, energized and eager to serve and to take on life’s challenges with confidence.”

Friends and family are noticing the differences, too. While Sarah was spending time with her family recently, her sister said Sarah’s hair was growing in and looked a lot thicker. Then, Sarah sent her friend a video from a trip she’d recently taken. She hadn’t seen her friend in several months, and her friend said, “You look so bright and glowing since the last time I saw you.”

A Unique, Natural Look

A huge benefit for Sarah is the natural beauty these treatments accent.

“I live in L.A. now, and it’s like home of the plastic people,” she says. “Everyone looks like they have the same surgeon. What I love about Halo and Dr. Banerjee is that she doesn’t make you into something you’re not.”

For others who may be considering anti-aging treatments, Sarah says she can understand people who are hesitant to do any treatments because she’s been there. But now, having done some procedures, she says, “Just a little filler here and there, it really makes you look 10 years younger. Just a subtle change can make a big difference in your appearance.”

A Great Experience with Dr. Banerjee

In addition to the great results she’s seen, Sarah says the entire experience with Dr. B and the Halo team has been positive.

“I work in healthcare, and it is rare that a doctor will spend more than a few minutes evaluating the patient,” she says. “I appreciated that Dr. B took her time, sat with me, and really listened before making any recommendations. She also was available on evenings and weekends if I had any questions. And her team always follows up the day after to ensure I’m happy with the results and recover is going well.”

Even though she lives on the West Coast now, Sarah says she will definitely be back to Halo for services when she’s back in town visiting.

Facial peel reduces acne scarring, sun damage | Halo Med Spa Northfield IL

Halo Helps Fade Years of Troublesome Acne Scarring and Sun Damage

One Client Gets her Wish to Go Out in Public Wearing Less Makeup

When you think of acne, you usually think of it being a uniquely teenage problem. And that once the breakouts are gone, you’re clear forever.

But for some individuals, acne can linger around for years and lead to hyperpigmentation, in which patches of skin become darker in color than the surrounding skin. “When acne happens to teenagers, it’s not just the acne,” Dr. Banerjee says. “Down the road, they get scarring and change of color issues. That’s how they heal.”

Such is the case for Keeley K. of Vernon Hills. She came to Halo to address hyperpigmentation and acne scars from sun exposure and years of pitting on her face. “I was looking for for a solution to help fade those marks so that I could wear less makeup,” she says.

Fading Dark Marks—Finally

Keeley consulted with Dr. B, who chose to begin her individualized treatment plan with a series of medical-grade, medium-depth peels from SkinCeuticals. Dr. B chose them because they’re botanical based and are ideal for sensitive skin and Keeley’s skin tone.

“This peel, especially when done in series, restores a glow and evens out the pigment by pulling out years of UV damage,” Dr. B says. “And because of how deep it goes, it induces some degree of new collagen formation. This leads to tightening and reduction in fine lines. This is not a substitute for plastic surgery but it does help tighten and takes off years of aging that shows up on the face.”

To her delight, Keeley noticed an immediate difference after her first peel. “Right after the first treatment, the results were noticeable,” she says. “My skin was smoother. And I could tell that with each treatment, the brown spots were getting lighter. My makeup goes on nicer, since the skin’s smoother. And I don’t have to wear as much concealer because the brown spots are getting lighter.”

She also shares that the treatment isn’t as bad as people might fear. “The peeling does happen, but it’s not bad,” she says. “You can go out into public and not look like a snake.”

What’s Next?

As of her third peel, Keeley’s forehead and cheeks had cleared up about 60 percent. Once she finishes the series of peels, she plans to do laser treatments to really get down into the skin and get rid of the scarring completely. “Dr. B’s also doing Botox for me and she does a great job,” Keeley says. “She makes it all painless. I’ve had Botox from other people and it hurts. Her technique is good.”

Combing multiple treatments for optimum results is part of Dr. B’s specialty. “The majority of our patients do multiple treatments because they know when we work on different layers, you get a better impact and longer-lasting results,” Dr. B says. “When we do peels, we’re working on the different layers of the skin. When we do Botox, you’re working on the muscles underneath the skin. The muscles relax with Botox, and the skin stretches and relaxes. Then when we do laser, you’re working on the epidermis and dermis, two different layers of the skin. Deep down, we’re boosting collagen production. On the surface, we’re pulling out the sun damage; improving the texture, tone and pigmentation; and reducing skin cancer. ”

Working on different layers and using multiple treatments means higher quality results that last longer, which also saves our clients money in the long run.

Many clients love the different options for that reason–and because it can prevent the need for plastic surgery. “Most of our patients say, ‘If you can keep me from going to plastic surgery, I’ll be a happy soul,’” Dr. B says. “And with Keeley, we’ve already done that.”

Personal Attention, Calming Environment

In addition to the results she’s seeing, a bonus for Keeley is the relaxing environment of the clinic. “Halo is a much more relaxing environment,” she says. “There’s a lot more personal attention here. Other places I’ve been to feels like a factory.”

How One Client Finds Relief from Sun Damage

A Fair Complexion Can Feel Unfair Under the Sun

Mary from Northbrook comes from a family that has a fair Irish complexion on both sides. That, of course, makes being in the sun tricky.

Both her parents have had skin cancer, and the kids have had to go on the defensive. “I’m the oldest of four kids,” Mary says. “All of us have fair coloring. We’ve all had stuff removed.”

Mary started with seeing a dermatologist, and then won a raffle through Halo. During her initial meeting with us, we noticed that she had a lot of skin damage from being a lifeguard as a teen and from being outside a lot. Even though she had worn sunscreen, it wasn’t enough to prevent sun damage.

The Science Behind the Treatment for Sun Damage

She liked our explanations about her skin issues and treatment options. She eventually went with our Halo Laser treatment and broadband light (BBL) treatments.

“I like the science behind Halo and their different treatments,” Mary says. “They were able to answer all my questions. It’s not some fly-by-night thing. It’s all grounded in solid science.”

Since beginning her treatments with us, Mary has seen solid improvements. Last year, her daughter got married and the family sent a Christmas card with the wedding pictures. A lot of people hadn’t seen her in a while, and Mary says they were amazed at how great she looked.

Preventive and Aesthetic

With Halo, Mary has seen “such dramatic improvements,” she says. “In fact, my dermatologist said the treatments will actually prevent some of the skin cancer down the road—stuff that you can’t even see that’s underneath the skin.”

Because of the history of skin cancer in her family, this news came as a huge relief for Mary. She’s glad she’s doing something proactively to help avoid some of the issues her parents had with their skin.

“In the old days, you were waiting to go see a dermatologist when you saw a problem,” Mary says. “But this is catching and eradicating the problems before they get worse.”

For concrete changes, Mary now sees fewer wrinkles and less redness from Rosacea. She also says her age spots have diminished.

Timewise, her Halo Laser and BBL treatments have fit right into her busy life of raising a family and work. She says there was very little downtime.

“It doesn’t take that long to do some preventive stuff,” she says. “And it’s been really, really positive. If you do this stuff now, you shouldn’t have as many issues later.”

Herb Levin, Case study for Halo Laser, BBL Laser Treatments | Halo Med Spa, Wilmette IL

Bye, Bye Brown Spots! One Client’s Experience with BBL, Halo Laser Treatment

“If you’re concerned about brown spots, aging spots, they do a great job with the BBL treatment to get rid of them. They’re either diminished or completely gone. In my case, they were completely gone.”—Herb Levin

A Walking Billboard for Laser Treatment

Herb Levin of Deerfield found out about Halo Laser & Aesthetic Medicine by seeing our work out on the street. He saw a man whose face looked great. Herb says the man had a good skin tone and very few wrinkles for his age. Herb asked the man where he went, and the answer was, “Halo Medicine.”

Initially, Herb came to Halo for broadband light (BBL) laser treatment, which he says, “worked out great.” After that, he came in for BBL and Halo Laser at the same time.

“The results were excellent,” he says. “It really took away some wrinkles, popped up my skin the way it should have and eliminated brown spots. I’m very happy with the results.”

Laser Treatment Eliminates Herb’s Brown Spots

One common question about laser treatments is: Will it hurt?  Herb says he experienced no pain with BBL and very little with the Halo Laser treatment. For the Halo treatment, we apply a cream to the skin, which Herb describes as “feeling hot,” the sensation of which can last for about a day. But he assures people that, “Yes, it’s worth it.”

When he tells people about Halo, Herb explains what they did and then says, “If you’re concerned about brown spots, aging spots, they do a great job with the BBL treatment to get rid of them. They’re either diminished or completely gone. In my case, they were completely gone.

“The results were exactly what they told me they would be. All in all, a very positive experience. I’ve been telling as many people as I can. I referred both my sisters, and friends have gone there on my recommendation.”

Eliminate razor burn with permanent hair removal | Halo Med Spa Winnetka IL

Laser Hair Removal Relieves Painful Razor Burn

“I don’t have to spend near the amount of time trimming my beard, and I look less like a mountain man. I don’t have to worry about that any more. I look a lot more professional. Before, it would almost look like a baby diaper rash all over my neck just because it was in the fold of my neck. And with sweat and dirt, it was inevitable. You wouldn’t think those small things make a difference, but they do.”—Brian Peterson, Northbrook

Two Decades of Painful Razor Bumps

Brian Peterson had a problem: painful razor burn on his neck. Until he came to Halo, he had been plagued by razor bumps under his beard since he was 16 years old.

“I was in the Army for 17 years,” Brian says. “I had 17 years of just razor bumps. I was absolutely sick and tired of having it. I was like, ‘Look, I need to do something about this.’”

And that’s when he turned to laser hair removal from Halo after being referred by some friends.

Brian says he went through six or seven laser hair removal sessions, with a month between each session. His results? Brian says it removed all of the razor bumps and 90 percent of the hair.

“I don’t have to spend near the amount of time trimming my beard, and I look less like a mountain man,” he says. “I don’t have to worry about that any more. I look a lot more professional. Before, it would almost look like a baby diaper rash all over my neck just because it was in the fold of my neck. And with sweat and dirt, it was inevitable. You wouldn’t think those small things make a difference, but they do.”

Quality Care Throughout the Whole Process

During his treatments, Brian says he was impressed by the Halo staff. Every single time he came into the clinic, he says he was greeted warmly.

“All of the staff, including the doctor, were always very attentive,” he recalls. “Of course, I appreciated that.”

Brian had his appointments on Saturdays, and by Monday or Tuesday, he was getting follow-up calls from the staff to see how he was doing and to make sure the treatments were going well. “I’ve never done anything cosmetic like this. But I’ve been to plenty of doctors’ offices. Halo’s level of follow up was more than I had ever received,” Brian says.

He found the Halo team also took time to explain in-depth the skincare and other protocol he should follow after each treatment.

Managing Expectations

In addition to the way he was treated, Brian says Halo did a good job of managing his expectations. Throughout the process, the Halo team told him what results he could expect from the treatments. “They gave me the expectations and they met them,” Brian says.

The price point was also a draw. He had looked all around the Chicago and north suburban area at places he had received recommendations for, but he found that other places with similar treatments were 50 to 75 percent more expensive. “Halo did a really good job of hitting the balance between cost and quality,” Brian says.

The big question is: Would he come back to Halo? He says yes. “If I had anything else that they offer that I would need, I wouldn’t hesitate to go back.”

How Halo Helped One Client Look and Feel Less Tired

“I was tired of looking so tired.”—Michele M., Glenview

When Michele Messenger of Glenview first came to Halo, she had some concerns. She was worried the treatments would hurt badly and that they’d be expensive. Or worse, she’d end up looking fake after all was said and done.

Fortunately, Michele’s experience was nothing of the sort. She had three Halo laser treatments, as well as PRP to the face and neck, and she says the treatments helped her look and feel better.

“Even after the first [treatment], I just felt like I wasn’t as tired,” she says. “And it felt like the right thing for me. I didn’t want anything that was too invasive. I didn’t want anything that was going to take a lot of time. I don’t wear a lot of makeup. I’m almost a no-maintenance kind of a person. So it just felt like the right thing for me. ”

Initially, Michele opted for some injections, but then realized she was worried about the pain. The last thing we want is for our clients to do something they are uncomfortable with, so we recommended PRP instead. Michele says she likes that we understood that and didn’t try to push her into anything she wasn’t comfortable with.

Thrilled with the Results

Michele couldn’t be happier with how the treatments turned out. “I really feel I got the results I was looking for. I think I look more refreshed,” she says. “I feel so much better. I look in the mirror, and I’m so happy.”

More specifically, Michele is incredibly happy with how her neck area turned out. “I cannot believe the difference in my neck,” she says. “[The improvement to] my neck and jowls has been huge. It’s smoother – the wrinkles have disappeared. It’s tighter. My neck is much, much tighter.”

Michele says that the people around her noticed the positive changes, too. After three laser sessions and one PRP treatment, “people were like, ‘What happened? You look so rested. You look great. What are you doing?'”

“This is just what I was looking for,” Michele says. “I feel like it was just natural…I’m just not so tired looking.”

Great Care Throughout the Treatments

In addition to the great results, Michele likes how Halo showed that we care. She felt we took the time to explain the treatments, which helped her understand what was happening along the way. And while there was downtime after her treatments, she knew what to expect from that as well.

“I was really impressed with the care,” she says. “I really do feel like they care and that it was important to them that I be happy with my results.”

Going forward, she’s planning to consult with Dr. B again to see what she suggests for maintenance and follow-up treatments.  “It’s not a one and done,” says Michele. “You do need to keep it up. I felt like they were honest with that. If you get a few, you get better results. It wasn’t like you need six. I got three.”

She has recommended others to Halo, but has noticed that some individuals are concerned about the pain—just like she was at the beginning.

She addresses their fear with a positive, “Go! Just try it!”

Look Younger Naturally with Halo Medical Spa: ‘I Like the Natural Results I Get Every Time’

“I’ve been to other salons to have stuff done, and it feels overdone. I like the natural results I get every time here at Halo.” —Tracy S., Glenview

Tracy has been coming to Halo medical spa since we opened in 2014. She likes the “more medical feel rather than the aesthetic fluff feel,” she says. More importantly, she loves the results she’s seen. “I’ve been to other salons to have stuff done, and it feels overdone. I like the natural results I get every time here at Halo.”

The results Tracy is seeing are the product of initial conversations and ongoing planning with Dr. B. At Halo Laser & Aesthetic Medicine, Dr. B consults with every client to find out what your concerns or “trouble areas” are. She then tailors a custom plan of action to ensure you can achieve optimum results.

One Size Doesn’t Fit All

While many salons draw from limited service offerings, Dr. B is able to pull from her extensive medical experience and our vast service offerings to ensure the best results for you, your goals and your budget.

“I feel like Halo is a step ahead of other places,” Tracy says. “They have a lot more options than just one product. They’re really innovative at combining things.”

Tracy’s custom treatment program at Halo has included Halo Laser, Sculptra and liquid facelift treatments. Halo Laser can minimize—or even reverse—years of sun damage, while Sculptra and liquid facelifts help you look younger by restoring volume to your face using naturally occurring hyaluronic acids or other natural substances.

“I’ve noticed a huge difference in the amount of sun damage discolorations, especially on my chest,” Tracy says. “I had sun damage scars—clusters of freckles on my chest—and they’re all gone.” She also says the lines, or folds, by her nose are much less prominent. (The nasolabial folds are commonly known as “smile lines” or “laugh lines” and are the two skin folds that run from each side of the nose to the corners of the mouth.)

The Doctor Is Hands On

When you choose Halo medical spa, you’re choosing a doctor-owned medical practice, not a fly-by-night salon. Everything we do is grounded in science. Dr. B meticulously researches the products and treatments available before ever bringing them into our facility. All of our treatments are scientifically proven to work.

Before beginning any treatment, Dr. B meets with every client for at least 30 minutes during an initial, free consultation. (Schedule your free consultation!) She’s also involved during the actual procedures.

“I like having a medical doctor do the treatments,” Tracy says. “I like that she’s here and hands on. Other places I’ve been to, even if the doctor is there, the doctor isn’t necessarily doing this aspect of the treatment.”

This gives Tracy peace of mind, not to mention that it likely alleviates frightening or annoying side effects. Prior to coming to Halo, Tracy says she had injections one time, and it made her feel light-headed and nauseated. “I’ve never had any problems like that here,” she says.

Tracking the Results

The real test of any anti-aging treatment is: Does it work?

Tracy can clearly track her results because, at Halo, we do extensive before and after photos. This gives her baseline data so she can clearly see the changes over time. It also gives the doctor the ability to continuously review and refine her custom plan. This goes back to our primary goal: optimum results with minimal treatment.

“This is important because the results are subtle over time,” Tracy says. “You don’t remember what it was like in the beginning.”

How PRP Therapy Helped One Client ‘Feel Great Inside and Out’

“Dr. B. has helped me feel great inside and out. This may be the best I have ever felt. Everything she recommends is grounded in science, which I really like.” —Holly Shoumake

You could say that Holly Shoumake is the “face” of Halo Medicine as she works at Halo’s front desk, but she also has had a PRP face lift with beautiful results. Holly wants to share her experience, because she is so happy with the benefits of PRP therapy.

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma and is a part of a category of medicine called Regenerative Medicine. In simple terms, the process involves taking a small amount of your blood, concentrating your blood’s platelets, and then injecting the resulting platelet-rich plasma into an area of your body in need of regeneration.

Why Holly Chose PRP Therapy for Herself

Holly first became intrigued with PRP by witnessing the results in Dr. Banerjee’s clients. “I talked with happy clients daily who showed me before and after pictures with noticeably younger looking faces or thicker hair,” she says. “They looked fantastic. I got interested in the procedure and asked Dr. Banerjee about it.”

Dr. Banerjee explained to Holly that she uses PRP therapy to perform non-invasive face lifts, breast lifts, hair regrowth or to improve incontinence and sexual function. After careful evaluation, Holly decided to proceed with several areas of PRP therapy, including PRP for face lift and hair regrowth.

How PRP Therapy Works

PRP Therapy begins with a simple blood draw that takes under five minutes. After the platelet-rich plasma is prepared, Dr. Banerjee injects it through a micro-needle into multiple places at the site of treatment. Holly said the procedure was not painful at all, because the areas were numbed.

After treatment, it takes 4-6 weeks to start to see the results for the PRP face lift and 6-8 months to see the full impact of the PRP hair regrowth. The results last for up to 18 months. It has been several months since Holly’s therapy, and she feels she is seeing an excellent response.

Holly Sees and Feels Results

It took about a month for Holly to see the results on her face. People she knows started to comment that she looked younger and really refreshed—rejuvenated. She had not told many people about the procedure, which made it all the more validating that friends were noticing. Holly noted, “At about the 6 month mark, my husband looked at me one morning and asked if I had another procedure done. He was really seeing a difference! PRP therapy results get better and better over those first 6 months.”

PRP stimulates the body’s natural collagen production, which is the “scaffolding” for skin. The additional, stronger scaffolding helps to reduce the skin’s laxity and reverse damage that contributes to wrinkles. Holly’s face looks smoother and tighter, while appearing very natural. Dr. Banerjee’s philosophy is to help her clients look their best, and she carefully counsels them on expected outcomes of treatment options. Holly has also started to see new hair growth and is excited about achieving the full results in the future.

During her career, Holly has worked closely with other physicians in medical practices, but none have impacted her life like Dr. Banerjee. As a double board-certified MD, Dr. Banerjee truly understands the human body and her client’s needs. “Dr. B. has helped me feel great inside and out. This may be the best I have ever felt. Everything she recommends is grounded in science, which I really like,” explains Holly. “I am really happy I did PRP therapy and feel lucky to work with Dr. Banerjee every day.”

How Laser Hair Removal Is Helping One Client Save Time Every Day

“I used to have to pluck almost daily, and now I don’t. It streamlines my beauty regime.” —Betsy B., Evanston

Betsy came to Halo over the summer for laser hair removal on her chin. After multiple treatments, she says the hair was almost completely removed. “And the hair that still shows up is very fine and very slow-growing. It was a dramatic change.”

Although Betsy had always wanted to do laser hair removal, she was afraid of the laser treatment. She was not sure what kind of damage it could do and didn’t know how effective it would be.

“But Stan and the people at Halo made me feel comfortable in finally taking that step,” Betsy says. “I trusted the people at Halo. I was able to take the time to talk to their experts. They explained the process and how it kills the root of the hair. They also laid out why it works and what it works on.”

The difference was dramatic. “It made the hair go away. Really,” Betsy says. “It kills the root so the hair doesn’t come back. I used to have to pluck almost daily and now I don’t. It streamlines my beauty regime.”

What advice would Betsy give others considering laser hair treatment? “One of my girlfriends is constantly plucking hair. I said to her, ‘You’ve got to go get this done. Just make it easier on yourself!'”
